Biography
I’m a solid, logical thinker with a dreamer mentality, still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I believe in doing what you say you’re going to do and not making promises you can’t deliver on. I love IPAs, spicy bourbons, and black coffee (especially paired with crisp morning air and a good book). I taught 9th and 10th grade English in public school and believed I could make a difference. I made a sharp career shift and learned about brand awareness and loyalty while working in a BMW service department, managing dreams and disappointments. I love learning something new every day, and there’s always something to learn.
Personally, I love every minute I get to spend with my husband (as of September) and dog (hopefully more than one soon – if I can convince the husband!). I have rediscovered my love for cooking, but not baking (I love experimenting too much for that kind of science) recently. You’ll always find me in the middle of a book or looking for the next great recommendation.
Causes You Support: If it supports animals, our troops, or education/literacy, I’m on board.
Favorite Sports Team(s): I know various forms of “sports ball” exist. Not my thing.
Pet Peeves: People who ask questions and don’t listen to the answer. Entitledness.
Favorite Quote: It costs absolutely nothing to be a good person.
Favorite Promotional Product and Why: I’m looking forward to expanding this answer, but I inherited 3 different sized Yetis as “rewards” for answering the right questions at work, and I use those suckers every day.
Favorite Band(s): I love music more than I can explain. I connect with any music that makes me feel something, whether it’s wanting to break something, cry, or dance. I’m a huge fan of Brand New, Slipknot, alternative music (what is that even?), 90s/2000s hip hop, and bluegrass. I tend to stray from top 40 and country.
Awards: Once upon a time, I was an NC Teaching Fellow, which is an (unfortunately hugely restricted and moderated program compared to what it used to be because of our state legislature) program that provides service loan style-scholarships for “the best and the brightest” of upcoming NC educators.
What I want to be when I grow up: Happy.
What I do when no one is looking: Sing along to whatever is currently fitting my mood
Favorite Book: The Little Prince
Favorite Artist: Rothko. I cried the first time I ever stood in front of his work. I’d love to stand in the middle of his chapel in Houston.
Favorite Song: There are far too many songs in the world to pick a favorite, but I have “Be Satisfied,” from Skynard’s “Simple Man,” tattooed on me as a reminder of what’s really important.
Favorite Place to Travel: The isolated hollers of the NC mountains
My Superpower: Making shit happen.
Favorite Condiment: Cheese. Not a condiment, per se, but it makes everything better.
Your dinner guest choice (dead or alive): I’m sure there’s more, but I’d love to sit down with Dave Grohl and share a meal and a beer or two. I bet he’s got some amazing stories.
Celebrity Crush: Corey Taylor
